Star Trek Bible Study
Almost 60 years ago a new TV show, Star Trek, blasted-off into our homes where it has become of a $7 billion dollar science fiction empire that continues to spin off new shows even to this day. What is the basis for so much of its appeal? Could it be its consistent themes of justice, mercy and even intertwined with “Color TV”, the war in Vietnam, and the social issues of the 60’s? Join us each week!
Jan. 26 - “Where No huMan Has Gone Before” (A trek to Heaven)
Feb. 2 - "Traveling to Eden" (Worldly vs. Heavenly Hope)
Feb. 9 - "Logic vs. Emotion" (Can you have one without the other?)
Feb. 16 - "Time Travel" (In the present, letting go of the past, hope in the future)
Feb. 23 - “Sacrifice" (Giving your life for a friend)
Mar. 2 - "Boldly Going" (What is our “Continuing Mission”?)
Wednesday Night Live - Spring Semester
WNL is for all ages! Preschool (2, 3, and 4 years old) enjoy Bible stories and learning early music skills with colored handbells. The Rev. Dr. Tara Bulger and Dr. Patricia Hacker will work with grade school children (K - 5th) to prepare them to be worship leaders on Children’s Sunday, April 13! Youth have lots of options like the new Homework/Hangout hour and Small Groups all centered around enjoying dinner together at the Youth Table. Adults are encouraged to attend the Jesus the Philospher study with the Rev. Dr. Richard Brooks! Everyone enjoys dinner together and seeing the children play the after-dinner game and circle up for closing songs. Join us!

St. Patrick's Day Lunch
Our Older Adult Ministry held a wonderful Ice Cream Social event in February to kick off the year with fellowship and planning for the future. The group will continue with this event in March at which they will choose a name for the group and continue to survey the participants on ideas and leadership for events for the rest of the year. All are welcome to participate – those who are retired or perhaps not retired but have a flexible schedule and can meet during the week during the day. PKC Rocks and Minerals event
Presbyterian Kids Connection (PKC) is our youth group for 3rd - 5th graders! We'll gather in Fellowship Hall at Noon for lunch and then learn from science teacher Leigh Adams how to explore, test, and identify different kinds of rocks and minerals. We will appreciate God's wonderful world at this science event. Bring your curiosity and join us!
PKC Mother's Day Gift event
Presbyterian Kids Connection (PKC) is our youth group for 3rd - 5th graders! We'll gather in Fellowship Hall at Noon for lunch and make a gift for Mom with artist and crafter Allison Davis. Join us for this event to learn a new skill and show some love to Mom for Mother's Day!
PKC Lunch on the Square event
Presbyterian Kids Connection (PKC) is our youth group for 3rd - 5th graders! We'll gather in Fellowship Hall at Noon and head out on a downtown adventure! We'll walk to Sam & Greg's for a pizza lunch, then play games in Big Spring Park. We will end with ice cream at the Cozy Cow and then walk back to church. $10 helps defray the cost of lunch. Join us for this yummy event!
Save the Date for VBS
Plan for your children to attend and invite your friends and family! This will be a special week during which we will:
Journey all over the Bible exploring stories of the ways in which God used water in care for God’s people
Journey all over the world hearing mission stories describing how children in other lands deal with their need for clean water
Make crafts from other countries
Enjoy music from around the world
Join God’s mission to restore the “goodness” of God’s creation, including its water

PKC Meet Abe Lincoln event

"Walk with Me" Milestone with Baptism Education Workshop
Children in 5th grade (and older) and their parents are invited to join the Rev. Dr Tara Bulger to participate in this milestone:
- Baptism Education Workshop, February 2, 9:30 – 10:30, in Fellowship Hall.
- Learn about the sacrament of Baptism and the promises made
- Discuss the significance of confirming one's own faith
- Discover who walks with them on their journey of faith
- Celebrate this milestone with a “Walk with Me” blessing and gift of a walking stick, February 9, at the 11:00 service.

"Pray with Me" Milestone
New - Prayer Milestone for 3rd Graders! Children and parents are invited to join Pastor Tara for a Prayer Education Workshop to learn about the spiritual practice of prayer, discuss how prayer is an important part of our life of faith, and discover many different ways to pray.
We will celebrate this milestone in worship that day at the 11:00 service with a special blessing and gifts of a finger labyrinth, a hand-held wooden cross, and a book!
This is a new milestone offered to 3rd graders, but because it is new we also invite any 4th or 5th graders who might be interested. Please register soon so that we can plan for materials.

PKC Wheeler Field Trip
Presbyterian Kids Connection (PKC) is our youth group for 3rd - 5th graders! We'll gather in Fellowship Hall at Noon for a quick lunch, then board the church bus for a field trip out to Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge. Park Ranger David Young will be our guide to seeing the amazing Sandhill cranes who winter on the refuge. We’ll be back by 3:00. Please note the later pick-up time. All are invited to attend a musical production of the story of how the beloved hymn “Silent NIght” came to be written, presented by the children who attended our Wednesday evening program this fall. A hot cocoa and cookie reception will follow. Please come!

Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat is so much fun for the children of our church, the friends they invite, and our specially invited guests - the families of First Friends Preschool and Second Mile Preschool! We’ll have hot dogs, popcorn, decorated trunks, music, and super fun games on the lawn! If you would like to decorate your trunk, donate candy, or help in any way to make this wonderful event happen, contact Kathy Gillmore at dce@fpchsv.org or make a note on the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board at church.
