Weekly Note from the Pastor

Dear Congregation Members,
  1. Attached is the bulletin for Sunday, October 4th, 2015.  Click here
  2. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated at all services on Sunday. 
  3. First Presbyterian Church is pleased to announce that Lacey Guthrie is the new First Friends Preschool Director. She will begin on October 12th. 
  4. Our Fall Adult Bible Study "Intersections: Faith and Science Conversations"  will continue on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  We will be discussing Ecology/Climate Science and topic "Jesus is Coming, Plant a Tree!" (Roman 8, Genesis 3).  Click here for the upcoming presentation. 
  5. PYC will not meet on Sunday.  
  6. If you had a photo taken for the new church pictorial directory, the photos are now available for pickup at the church office during normal business hours or on Sunday in the Historical Room.  
  7. We have recently received several stock checks from Morgan Stanley. However the checks does not reference the donor's name.  If you have made a recent gift of stock to FPC, please contact Taffy Matheny so that your gift is properly credited to you.  
  8. Pastor Jerome Bizimana from Rwanda, Africa will be visiting our church next Sunday, October 11th.  Please make plans to welcome him to our church and hear his message of hope and restoration. Click here for more opportunities to meet Pastor Jerome.  
  9. Dr. Hunter Farrell will be visiting FPC October 17-18, 2015.  Click here for more information.  
  10. FPC members Andi Gaskins and Heidi Meadows will be traveling to Rwanda with the Outreach Foundation on October 19-30, 2015. Donations and gifts will again be welcome.  Click here to see how you can help or contact Heidi Meadows for more information.  
  11. Our Uganda mission trip is filling up quickly.  We have only a few remaining team slots available before opening these slots to people outside the church as of October 15th.  Those wishing to not miss this wonderful opportunity to go or who have questions should contact Anne Peters at 256-590-3813 or via email at ahpeters63@gmail.com
  12. PYC Breakfast and Bible Study will not meet on Friday, October 9th.  
  13. The church office will be closing at noon on Friday, October 9th.  
  14. Our PW Circle meetings will begin on October 12.  See this week's bulletin for details.
  15. Monday Matinee will gather on Monday, October 5th beginning at noon in the library.  We will be watching Ring the Bell.   
  16. LOGOS will not meet next week due to fall break.
  17. Just a reminder to those church members in our Wednesday Night Bible studies that the prepared meals are $5.00 and reservations are considered standing (payment expected) if not cancelled by 8:00 a.m. on Monday mornings.  You may sign the roster on the bulletin board, or call the church office to make or cancel reservations.   
  18. Greene Street Market is open every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. during the month of October.
  19. Trunk or Treat will be Sunday, October 25th from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.  All families with toddlers through fifth grade age children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes and come by to enjoy a free dinner and Moon Bounce.    
I know many of you are travelling for fall break.  Please be careful!  Relax and enjoy your time.
