Young Adults Ministry

Sunday School

College and Career
Christian Ed Resource Room, Main Building Upper Level

Open to college students as well as young professionals, this group shares ideas around “The Wired Word.” Each lesson includes biblical commentary and discussion questions related to a topic in the news that week. Informal presentation with thought-provoking conversation, this class is a way to stay engaged with growing in the faith by creating community and fellowship.

Classroom C, Education Wing Upper Level
Coordinator: Marshall Schreeder

This Sunday morning class is designed for adults in their 30's and 40's. Using a diverse set of curricular materials, the topics of study help members examine faith in a practical way—exploring scripture, theology, and spirituality. In the past, we have studied Jesus' parables, the Stations of the Cross, various DVD and sermon series focused on community, discipleship and outreach, and seasonal studies including Advent and Lent.

Wednesday Nite live!

Adult classes with great topics for young adults on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 - 7:00, including dinner.
  1. LIVING THE QUESTIONS - Ever feel like Jesus has been kidnapped by the Christian Right and discarded by the Secular Left?  Saving Jesus Redux is a DVD-based exploration of a credible Jesus for the third millennium.  Contributors including Brian McLaren, Diane Butler Bass, Robin Meyers, Marcus Borg, Walter Brueggemann, John Dominic Crossan, Matthew Fox, Amy-Jill Levine, and others invite a conversation around the relevance of Jesus today.  Moderated by Bert Moore and Barbara Bozeman in the Library beginning promptly at 5:30 p.m. Check out a preview video for this study:
  2. THE BIBLE PROJECT - Join us for a journey through the Bible focusing on the theme "Heaven and Earth". We'll move through the biblical narrative from the Garden of Eden to the construction of Solomon's temple to John's visions about the realization of a new creation.    All that is required is a bible, and your willingness to start with some basic texts, "geek out" a little as we dig into the nerdy weeds on one of two of the concepts, and perhaps "dig deeper" with more relevant Bible stories before we wrap.  This group will meet in the Study on the 2nd floor of the Education Wing beginning promptly at 5:30 p.m.  Check out the video on which this study is based:
  3. CONFIRMATION FOR THE PREVIOUSLY CONFIRMED! -   Are you a current member of the church? Did you go through confirmation as a youth? Or a new member class as an adult? Do you remember EVERYTHING you were taught? Me neither! So join Pastor Tara on Wednesday nights this fall for a confirmation class for all of us who are well above the age of a typical confirmation class. We will learn about the reformed faith, the basic tenets of our Christian belief and about the polity of our church community. Expect lots of discussion and fun!  This group will meet at the Gideon Blackburn House at 5:30 p.m.

Bible Studies

Sunday Evening Study Group - Sundays, 6:00-7:30 pm in the Library, with Charlie Bozeman
This small group watches and discusses video series. The current study is Dream.Think.Be.Do.  It's not about "what" to believe.  It's not about projecting someone else's "truth." It's a springboard for conversation about what's next for those who follow Jesus.  "Love God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind," (Luke 10:27) is the place to start. Check out a preview video here:

Bible Study Group - Tuesdays, 4-5 pm with childcare, or Thursdays, 10 am, in the Library
Join Pastor Tara as we travel through the book of Acts. Learn about how the new church of Jesus Christ was formed and sustained. There will be some scholarship, some prayer and sharing together, and lots of discussion about how the biblical text impacts our lives. Both groups will study the same passages each week so you can attend the session that best fits your schedule in a given week.  All are welcome.

Early Christians - Saturdays, 7:30 am in the Library, with Bert Moore
The Early Christians study group will discuss Amy-Jill Levine's Teaching Company presentation on Great Figures of the New Testament.  All are welcome for fellowship and discussion. Come as you are and bring your own morning beverage. The presentation begins promptly at 7:45.
