FPC Music ministry

In the life and ministry of First Presbyterian Church, music plays an important role in the worship, nurture, and outreach of the entire congregation. Having been created in the image of God, we are gifted with a discerning intellect and an ability to create. The adults, youth, and children participating in this ministry are entrusted with the task of using music as a tool of ministry within the church and our larger community. Music is the means by which we facilitate our ministry to God and the church.

We can find no better advocate for the use of music in the church than the Psalmist David. Psalm 100 exclaims, “Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.” Martin Luther recognized the power of music saying... "Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the Word of God through Music."

Choirs and activities

The Chancel Choir provides consistent music leadership at weekly worship services, as well as special seasonal celebrations and concerts. All have been done at the highest possible level of quality and offered to God as our finest sacrifice of praise. Highlights of the year include:

  • Over 70+ anthems sung by the choir
  • Special musical presentations on Reformation Sunday, Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Palm and Easter Sundays
  • Major choral works presented during Advent involving our children, youth, and adult choirs,
  • Participation of all our musical ensembles in worship (Chancel Choir, Logos Youth Choir, Crusader Ringers, Calvin Choir, Joy Choir, and Angel Choir)
  • Special community outreach concerts and guest soloists.

Children, Youth, and the Crusader Ringers: Through the Logos Program, our children and youth rehearse weekly for musical participation in worship, while also developing an understanding and skill-set for worshipping God. Additionally, the children’s choirs perform during Christmas season, as well as a spring musical at our church. Our handbell ensemble, the Crusader Ringers, bring the beauty of English handbells to our worship through dedicated preparation and participation in worship throughout the year.
